BIPV roofing company, SRS Energy, has received a 2009 "Best of What's New" award from Popular Science in the Home Tech category for its Sole Power Tile. This product is the first curved BIPV roof product designed for clay Mission-style roofing systems.
Marty Low, CEO of SRS Energy said, "The Sole Power Tile system takes solar out of the glass box. We've fused this viable renewable technology with a desired product profile for the roofing environment. This is the first product to integrate with the Mission-style roofline of the West and Sunbelt regions. Homeowners and architects can now choose renewable energy without compromising on curb appeal."
Popular Science reviews thousands of new products and innovations annually, selecting the top 100 winners across 11 categories for inclusion in the yearly, "Best of What's New" issue. To be selected for the award, a product or technology must represent a significant step forward in its category, this product accomplished this by using a curved design, a barrier that needed breaking down in order for the widespread uptake of BIPV in the architectural industry.
SRS Energy's Sole Power Tile system blends in with its partner, US Tile's, clay tiles. This overcomes the common issue surrounding aesthetics when considering PV roofing systems. SRS Energy and US Tile are currently launching the Sole Power Tile system in select West Coast markets; nationwide rollout will commence in 2010.
